Every piece starts with a conversation, what your needs are, what are you going to wear it for and what are your preferences. From here, we start to look at fabrics. We have traditional “men’s” shirting options from mills in the U.K., Italy and Japan. A piece of cloth speaks to a person and speaks to what can be done with it. From here, we will get into the details. Our tailors will walk you through all of the options. Our shirt detail samples collection, works in progress and mood boards will help inspire your bespoke shirt design. Once we have designed your shirt and chosen your materials, our tailors will take your measurements. Expect a shirt consultation to take up to 1 hour. A deposit for 50% will be required to start the process with the balance due when your piece is complete. You will need to come in for three fittings after the consultation. Plan for 6 to 8 weeks for the whole process, but talk to our team if you are in more of a rush. We may be able to accommodate a faster turnaround.

We start with a muslin. This is a mock up in a test material to check the patterns that were created for you based on your measurements and consultation. Here, we can communicate visually about the details that we discussed and you can quite literally try them on before they are solidified. This is a more unique step in our process. Cutting in a test fabric first lets us test ideas and adapt proportions and details in a way that is more fluid. It also lets us catch and address things like asymmetry in the body before cutting in the actual cloth. Did you know that one shoulder can be lower than the other, and one side of the chest can be larger than the other? Shirts are made with clean felled seams where extra seam allowances are cut away. There doesn’t end up being much room for alterations in a shirt after it has been cut in actual cloth. We can also draw on changes and details and see exactly how they might look on your body. From here, your patterns are corrected based on our fitting notes.

After verifying your patterns and preferences in a muslin fitting, your patterns are adapted and your shirt is cut in actual cloth. At this stage, we have not yet cut down all of the seams for felling, leaving us with some wiggle room as we come closer to seeing the final results. Things like buttons and other trims are chosen at this stage when we can see how they will change the look or feel of the garment.

At this stage, the buttons and button holes have been added to your shirt and all of the seams have been clean felled. Your shirt is usually ready for you to take home at this stage. Note that we will live through the life of garments with you. We will mend shirts and elements like collars and cuffs can be changed in the future, extending the life of the pieces we have made for you.

Yes, you can customize any detail in our bespoke shirts including cuff style and collar shape, as well as front placket, yoke and pleating details.

Yes, we offer custom monograms and embroidery that are done on our vintage hand operated Cornely chainstitch embroidery machine. We also offer chainstitch and moss stitch embroidery that is common in western wear and rodeo suits. We can apply trims using our Cornely lock stitch machine and create three dimensional effects. Our studio is full of samples of embroidery styles and lettering that can help inspire the design of your pieces.

A bespoke shirt will be a process that involves multiple fittings to get the fit and proportion just right. Made-to-Measure shirts are generally finished garments the first time you try them on.

Every bespoke shirt is made just for you. There are no limits on the pattern, the cut, the design or the fabric selection. After a consultation, where we choose materials and walk through every detail, we go through a series of fittings to make sure that the fit and the proportion are just perfect. To ensure your pieces fit perfectly, it is important to us that the tailor taking your order is also the one responsible for cutting your pieces and overseeing their construction.  Shirts sit directly on the body with no padding or structure like a blazer and the process of multiple fittings makes it possible to accommodate for things like asymmetry in the body (one shoulder can be higher than the other) and allow us to adapt to the proportions of your body and your preferences.

In made-to-measure shirts, you select from predetermined details and design options and a finished shirt is delivered for you to try on for the first time. This process limits the design but also the nuances of fit and proportion that is developed through multiple fittings in a bespoke shirt.
