Made in Toronto: Bespoke Tailoring and Local Manufacturing

We make all of our garments on site, in-house. It is important to us that the person consulting with you and taking your measurements is the one drafting your patterns and overseeing the work done on your pieces. Our workroom is part of our showroom, so you can experience the craft behind our garments first-hand. Because we make everything in house, final adjustments and finishes on your bespoke pieces can often be done while you wait, possibly with a cocktail or glass of wine, a flip through our vintage record collection, or a visit from our studio cat, Sofia.

What Does “Made in Toronto” Mean?

When we say made in Toronto, we mean made in Toronto by people in Toronto. Our studio is in Toronto's West End, in the Junction neighbourhood. Your patterns will be drafted right here, at the place you come to visit us for a consultation. Garments are hand-cut on site, and all garments are mocked up, made up in actual cloth and hand-finished right here. Your fittings, adjustments and all of the making will happen in the same place.

It has become increasingly rare for custom tailoring outlets to actually make pieces from scratch themselves. For this reason, our workroom is open to our fitting and consultation area. While this might mean you’ll occasionally hear the noise of a steam iron or find some stray threads and fabric scraps on the floor, we believe the proximity to our craftspeople makes a visit exciting and inspiring. You can see other works in progress, experience what we put into the pieces we make and examine our specialty machines. There is always an exciting array of projects on the go.

A Local Supply Chain

There are many inputs that go into a bespoke garment and a large number of suppliers that service our industry. We do everything we can to ensure that we are not only making our garments ourselves in Toronto, but that we are also supporting a broader local fashion industry.

Did you know there is an Ontario Fibre Shed network and that we are members? There is a growing number of small mills spinning and weaving fabrics in Ontario using Ontario wool. We stock samples from many of these mills and are proud to produce pieces in collaboration with, Upper Canada Weaving, Wellington Fibres and Wave Fibre Mill. In addition to cloth, we have our shoulder pads made just north of our Toronto studio at Interpad Pad. Some of our brand labels are made in Toronto by Laven. A large part of our button stash comes from Sterling Buttons. Our business cards and bags were letterpress printed in Toronto at Lunar Caustic Press. The majority of the sewing thread that we use is manufactured in Montreal by Cansew. We use YKK zippers that are manufactured in Canada.

Where possible, we have even had our shop fixtures made in Canada. Our reception desk was made by Lubo and our neon Bespoke Tailor sign is by Neon Props. Our showroom furniture is sourced from Style Garage, Gus Modern and Molo. Many of our vintage pieces were picked up at SMASH and we work with Telegramme Prints on framing projects.
