Setting up and testing our CORNELY embroidery machine for an upcoming project! The stitch that’s being set up is called “whip stitch” which creates an effect that looks like spikes🦔

We had a great visit with @jkf_man and he’s shared some amazing photography of us at work. I’ll be sharing more over the next few days. He’s also posted a lovely city guide for Toronto that includes us as well as a very talented group of other designers and makers in this city. Having fun with embroidery! We’re starting a western rodeo suit with lots of in house embroidery on our antique hand operated Cornely machine. Picking colours, finalising layout and design… it is a very involved process before the embroidery even begins

Bespoke tailoring requires a lot of small parts involving a large and specialized supply chain. Proud that many of the components are still available, made in Toronto. Here Victor is cutting us some straight grain tape that we will use to reinforce the front edge of our jackets and hold the trimmed back canvas in place.

Craig is working on a special personal project, and it’s a great opportunity to re-visit some basics. Trying out a very smooth method of building a welt pocket in a 1920s inspired waistcoat. There’s always so many ways to construct each part of a garment, and you always learn so much by trying something new, or in this case, something old!

Watch how a flat pant back takes its curvy shape! Manipulating fabric with ironing is just as crucial process as cutting and sewing in a bespoke tailoring world. A lot of things can go wrong if it’s not done right😅

Happy Friday! This weeks #tailoredtipple was brought to us by the amazing @marknowacz a Japanese Whisky from Hakushu disterllery

Working on a half lined jacket, cross stitch is used here in the video to secure jacket front facing to the light linen canvas!

Sometimes a cut is so tight, the traditional method of chalking a lay is simply the best. And this overcoat sample looks great chalked out on this natural coloured vintage coating from Carriage

Sharing a clip of breast welt pocket preparation today! Prick stitch is being applied to the top part of the pocket so that the edge stays crisp. Also it just looks nicer with these stitches✌️

We have more stories to tell and some of them are better suited (pun intended) to a format longer than a photo caption. We're going to keep things light, posting once a month, often to support a calendar of in-person talks the team will be planning to help you understand the world of bespoke better.
